What were they thinking?

Ok, so I've started to think about listing "what were they thinking" posts. For example, the other day I was driving home and I saw this kid riding down the street on his bike wearing a football jersey. No big deal, except it was a Michael Vick jersey. What were his parents thinking? Let's let Johnny go riding around celebrating a convicted felon! What's next, the O.J. tee-shirt?! Yes, I know that's overreacting, but still...couldn't they have found any other jersey for him?

Baseball geek, part 2

I'm headed next weekend on my annual baseball geek pilgrimage. We go to Peoria, AZ every year to watch the Padres in Spring Training. That hopeful time when it's still possible that any team could go to or even win the World Series. I mean who saw the Tampa Bay Rays going to the World Series? Ninety percent of you are lying! You did not think they would be there! If you did, you would've bet on them in Las Vegas and made serious coin!!!

This year we get to see the Dodgers and Indians for the first time, as well. I'll try to write something, and I guarantee there will be photos for Jim's Point of View.

OK, so I'm a baseball geek.

As the title says, I'm a baseball geek. The new MLB Network started on New Year's Day, and I can't get enough. Even though I've seen the same show about perfect games four times now, and sat through the Don Larsen perfect game twice late at night, I keep going back. All baseball all the time! It's a baller's dream come true. I can't wait until the season starts, when they have cameras in every stadium! If my wife is reading this she is shaking her head right now and mentally calling me what I am...a baseball geek. I'm not apologizing for it. In fact I revel in it, relish it, and am proud that I've passed it on in varying degrees to both of my sons. I'm not saying she's not a baseball fan, and knowledgeble as well, just she's a fan not a FAN(atic) who will search out the box scores first thing in the morning, and go to sleep watching the replays on TV at night. Or wears a baseball logo tie or watch (thanks for the gifts, hon). In fact, among my favorite movies, what else: Major League, Field of Dreams and The Natural. And Caddyshack, but come on, what guy doesn't love Caddyshack ("It's in the hole!").

Why stop there?

The freeway signs around town all say "No texting while driving-Jan 1". No texting while driving?! I thought that was obvious! But then I got to thinking, why stop there? Just since Christmas Day I've seen people doing the following while driving: putting on makeup, eating with utensils, reading some sort of papers, shaving and even GETTING DRESSED WHILE DRIVING! Hello, people! I'm out there driving with you, and would appreciate it if you paid at least a little attention to what you were doing with that big hunk of metal and gasoline you're weaving around in. I don't know about you, but I'd like to come home at night. I'll get my reading, shaving and dressing done there, thank you.

And as for "why stop there?", it seems to me that we didn't even need the no texting law. There are already laws against "driving while distracted". Wouldn't texting fall under the category of a distraction?

Snapshots of a random mind...

I have another blog, Jim's Point of view (http://www.jimspov.blogger.com) where I post my photos. This little corner of my mind is more for getting things off my chest and uncluttering my sometimes one track mind. For example, I would like to say that this time of year can be the most frustrating time of year for those of us in retail (even if we aren't in customer related positions). Why do people wait until AFTER the last minute to try to get something done, and then get mad at us when we tell them there isn't physically enough time, stock, etc. to save them from their procrastination? And then they expect us to either break the rules (even if it could mean our job) or forgo our family time to stay only to help them. We do it when and if we can, but we do also have lives and families of our own as well. And we're more likely to help you if we don't have to endure your standing across the counter from us yelling at us because you waited until the last minute. I understand your frustration if we aren't able to help you out of your predicament, please understand that there is only so much we can do.

Anyway, sometimes I will put those thoughts that are in my mind, sometimes it might be something funny I found or read or saw, sometimes it may be absolute nonsense (I do post late at night sometimes), and sometimes I may find myself repeating the same word over and over. That happens sometimes. I hope anyone who finds this blog finds it enjoyable and worthy of a second look, but if not, thanks for playing and don't forget to tip your waitress.
